Who’s around our campfire? Each week we will profile a different TEDActive 2013 attendee and give you a peek into what they have to share around the fire in Palm Springs. This week, meet Sandra!
Where are you from?
Born in LA, grew up in Pasadena, college in Boston, work all over the globe.
Where is your favorite place on earth?
On a bike, riding LA at night.
What interests you?
One foot in history, one foot in prophecy.
What problem are you trying to solve?
How to make new communities with memory and prophecy. Create instant connections and places that feel old when they are brand new. How to create communities with diversity — of age, income, and all the good things that Jane Jacobs pointed out about New York in the 1960s.
What’s your favorite thing about TEDActive?
Youth. Bright Minds. Sunshine and Kelly.
What’s your favorite TED Talk?
Nic Marks: The Happy Planet Index
What a notion … the things that make us happy are actually free!
What piece of advice would you give to someone coming to TEDActive for the first time?
Come open-hearted, rested, and ready to drink from a fire hydrant for the next week. There are no rules or dress codes or secret hand shakes. EVERYONE will welcome you.
What’s one thing you can’t live without?
My granddaughter, Michelle [in picture].
